Somalia Marks First eFIBA Appearance with Third-Place Finish

The Electronic Somali Sports Federation (ESSF) confirms the conclusion of Somalia’s inaugural participation in the eFIBA Season 4 NBA® 2K26 National Team Competition, where Team Somalia secured third place in the Africa regional standings.

The eFIBA Season 4 Africa competition, organized under the framework of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), brought together leading national teams from across the continent to compete for a single qualification spot at the eFIBA World Finals in Doha, Qatar.

Following a competitive series of matches, Algeria finished in first place and earned qualification to the World Finals, Morocco placed second, and Somalia concluded the tournament in third position. While only the top-ranked team advanced to the global finals, Somalia’s podium finish represents a notable achievement in its first appearance at this level of international esports competition.

Throughout the tournament, Team Somalia demonstrated competitive discipline, adaptability, and technical proficiency against well-established national programs, underscoring the rapid development of esports and digital basketball in the country.

ESSF views this participation as a foundational step in Somalia’s long-term engagement with international esports competitions. The experience gained during eFIBA Season 4 will directly inform future planning, athlete development, and competitive preparation.

Looking ahead, the Electronic Somali Sports Federation confirms its intention to strengthen preparation for eFIBA Season 5, with a focus on enhanced training structures, talent development pathways, and improved competitive readiness at the continental and global levels.

ESSF congratulates Algeria on securing qualification to the eFIBA World Finals in Qatar and acknowledges the strong performance of Morocco, while reaffirming its commitment to representing Somalia with professionalism and ambition in future international esports events.
